WEST HAVEN, July 13, 2017 — A civic-minded resident with a passion for giving back to West Haven and its robust Italian-American community will receive the Columbus Day Committee’s Italian-American of the Year award at the city’s 18th annual Columbus Day Celebration.
The honor is bestowed each year on an Italian resident, or couple, who epitomizes service in West Haven’s vibrant Italian-American community.
Accompanied by Italian music, members of the West Haven Italian-American Civic Association will escort the 2017 awardee to the steps of City Hall at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, for the special recognition.
Committee members and residents will join the recipient to fete the Italian navigator and observe their ancestry with dignitaries and descendants of folks from the old country clad in red, white and green.
