West Haven’s Allingtown neighborhood on the move

Acorn The Atwood

WEST HAVEN, June 13, 2017 — The Acorn Group of New Haven has revealed a marketing flyer, “Be Part of The Birth of a College Town,” promoting leasing opportunities for The Atwood, a nearly completed $18 million housing and retail development at 222 Boston Post Road.

The four-story, 90,150-square-foot building, built by the Acorn development company Forest Road Manor LLC, houses 67 market-rate apartments and 16,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor.

The Atwood is 400 feet from the University of New Haven’s Route 1 campus, which is home to 6,000 students.

Officials said the project will generate $101,776 in property tax revenue for the city in its first year and $370,279 by year eight.

Acorn has also announced plans to complement The Atwood with two similar mixed-use developments that would flank the Allingtown Green.

According to the flyer, The Forest, scheduled for completion in June 2018, would include 62 market-rate apartments and 18,000 square feet of retail space. Park Place, slated for completion in June 2019, would include 50 market-rate apartments and 16,000 square feet of retail space.

In all, the three projects are estimated to produce more than $1 million in annual property tax revenue for the city’s coffers, officials said.
